He will then explore the question: Can agriculture be a restoration tool? The talk is intended to spark a conversation about where we are today and possibilities for the future.
The agriculture instructor for Madison College (MATC), Randy developed and now teaches in the college’s new Agriculture Systems Management program. He also collaborates with colleagues in the Culinary Arts program to develop their new Sustainable Farm to Table: Modern Meat Production program.
Randy brings to both of these programs more than 20 years of experience in the Wisconsin agriculture industry. In his teaching, he combines this experience with his training as a Land Ethic Leader to connect students to Leopold’s land ethic and show how the concept relates to farming practices.
Randy holds both a master’s and bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in soil science. He is a former UW Extension agriculture agent for Columbia County and the former agriculture education director for the Wisconsin Technical College System. He also served as a soil and water quality specialist for the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection. He lives in Sauk City, WI, with his wife, son, and dog.
